Primary School children at Goldthorpe Embankment

Get involved

The local community has already taken the Embankment into their hearts and there are lots of ways in which you can get involved with the Embankment from volunteering time to help maintain the site; opening up for the public; helping out at events; joining the management group and using the site for your own group or organisation.

Volunteering

Volunteers are need to help our caretaker maintain the site throughout the year with tasks such as weeding, planting and watering. Having at least two people on site also means we can then open up for the public to visit the site so we are always looking for volunteers for an opening rota. We also need help for at events on the site and for special projects. For example in 2021 volunteers:

• Planted bulbs
• Planted trees
• Weeded and watered
• Painted the mural
• Set up and packed away for the Autumn Fair
• Helped children carve pumpkins at the Autumn Fair
• Given away vegetable packs at the Autumn Fair
• Helped with the poppy display
• Assisted with activities for groups visiting the site

A space for your event

The Embankment can be booked for group events and activities and we have been delighted to stage several of these in the past, allowing local people from groups the opportunity of using the site for their particular event. The GREG team can be on-hand to assist with these, including running environmental themed activities. In the past the site has been used by:

• Astrea Dearne Academy for their Year 6 transition day
• Dearne Family Centre for family outdoor learning days
• Local Beaver and Cub packs for environmental activities
• Dearne Churches Together for public events
• Community Shop for picnics

Please get in touch if you are interested in making a group booking.
